He floated and stung wrote poetry, a true legend of our times set us all free.
To be the best we could be we looked to his smile, heavy load to bare he won by a mile.
Took on the establishment at last they lost, did the righteous thing whatever the cost.
Fought on his terms the lion that roared, opponents of all kinds he easily floored.
A shy young man from the wrong side of the street, took on the world with his dancing feet.
The courage to step up climb in the ring, didn’t realize then his legend begin.
But always his way, his time, his rules, brushed aside all the doubting fools.
He fought with his fists and especially his brain, inspired a generation on his fight train.
He taught us to fight but not to kill, humility for others by the power of his will.
Best of all to have lived, listened to his rhyme, lessons in legend for now and all time.
The greatest of all, boxing’s main man, that was at first his longterm plan.
More than that he showed, how to be best, put others first passed life’s greatest test.
The best of all time without a doubt, not just in the ring at the world he would shout.
In the best of all ways care about others, the downtrodden masses all sisters and brothers.
Titan, legend, King of the down, he ruled by love no need for a crown.
That is his legend for his worldwide kin, whatever the odds never give in.
And he was so damned funny as an angry young man, fight all comers his only plan.
He was David, and then took Goliath down, a legend born, never a frown.
Then he taught us how to rumble never give up, rope a dope tactics taught this young pup.
Not biggest but so brave take punishment, win for all time talent heaven sent.
And the lesson that took our breath all away, fight illness with dignity in your long last days.
Learned to listen not so much speak, give succor to warriors growing old and weak.
He’s up above now sits at his God’s right hand, God splutters and laughs at this incredible man.
I wish you had longer says God so sorry, I changed the world says Ali no bitterness from me.
Thanks for your service and the poems you sing, arise young Ali forever a King.
Why thank you my God but I have no need, for titles or riches from this I am freed.
I just want to sit awhile smile at the world, send out my rhymes my flag I unfurl.
I was always me never was I faking, that is my legacy my hands no more shaking.
If you have one last rhyme for us what would you say, one more thought as we go on our way.
Ali ponders a while as he sits on his cloud, here’s one God say it out loud.
Never give up never give in, believe in yourself that’s never a sin.
I truly lived and was always me, I floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee
My personal tribute to this giant for all time, just thank you so much for you and your chimes.
A man who refused to kill for an empire, you, me, we, set the world on fire.
Sleep well fair Ali we’ll remember you forever, you the one who taught us, always box clever.
One name for you now sweetly imagined, you’re the man known for all time as truly a legend.
