"REMEMBER LAST NIGHT." A short story.

No man or woman goes to war to make war, their politics are no island.
No one joins the military to kill, to go to meet their high land.
They go young and fresh faced, from this island of mine
Always free, full of love and enthusiasm, just of their time.
But they will stand, even though scared, to all do their duty.
They come from our democratic race, flawed but full of beauty.
Young, fun and fine and full of vigor, they defend us all, never forget.
Their selfless values, their sacrifice, when the chips are all set.
Always so on a day long ago, when a ship of our line cruelly went down.
HMS Sheffield, her crew so young, doing their duty only to our crown.
Some forget this royal fact, the duty of those brave sailors.
They went to free a people, from their oppressive jailors.
Those were our people cruelly attacked, no defence, no going back.
Our heroic military went to their aide, thousands of miles never afraid.
No one will forget, those twenty heroes who awoke on the sea.
Their last day on earth, their last breaths drawn, to set people free.
Look to the sea that surrounds our great nation, look to the sea.
There on the foam, riding high, our brave sailors lost for eternity.
Think of them often, think of them well, as you paddle on the twinkling foreshore.
For you and me and others far away, they gave up, their evermore.
Look to the sea…………
