A poem by Toby J Cole
There is a mountain called life that sits upon your back.
A small hill. Other times unimaginable heights of black.
Remember you don’t have to climb it alone soldier.
I’m here, just ask, I’ll put my arm around your shoulder.
You look in the mirror. Don’t like what you see, turn away.
There’s always an answer, look for a different way.
That reflection is not the only you soldier.
I’m here. Just ask, I’ll put my arm around your shoulder.
You feel tired and cold, you need a flame to warm your day.
Words of care and magic which help to light the way.
If the words don’t work, it’s easy to change the script soldier.
If you feel like your world, is a sea full of waves of dark.
Stop swimming that way, use a different stroke, still make your mark.
Get out of that surf and use a different board soldier.
Are you standing on the edge, staring into the abyss?
Step back, look around a while, feel life’s kiss.
Walk another way, slow down, there’s no rush soldier.
It’s okay to run and dance and smile, take flight.
Life’s journey can change, a different end in sight.
Look for your lighthouse, it’s closer than you think soldier.
I’m here. You don’t need to ask. I’ll put my arm around your shoulder.
